Music of ACCENT
Arranged by James Rose
One of James Rose's first arrangements for the international a cappella sensation Accent, "Honor, Honor" is a spiritual that could easily have fit within the repertoire of Take 6 in their early years. The jazz harmony heavily reliant on dominant chords, along with the soulful male solo feature are reminiscent of that style so clearly associated today with Mervyn Warren, Cedric Dent and Mark Kibble's swinging reharmonizing style. Edited for this catalog by Kerry Marsh, this version works well for advanced SSATBaB a cappella vocal jazz ensembles. The most common of Evan Sanders' low bass notes included in this edition is low D, and any of the D-flats are singable up an octave without adversely effecting the texture. This chart would be a strong way to open a concert or a festival set, no doubt!
