Chart Info
This wordless vocal arrangement of the bebop jazz standard is, honestly, a highly-challenging chart for high-achieving vocal jazz ensembles. Written for "Badinage" from Hutchinson Community College (KS) under the direction of Neal Allsup, this chart definitely pulls no punches, with a reharmonized and re-rhythmicized intro, a head-in melody section written mostly in octaves with some chord voicing popping out, a shouty send-off into a scat solo section, solo backgrounds, a modern development section, an aggressive soli section leading into a huge head-out shout section, and finally a reharmonized and surprising ending!! Phew...there's a whole lot here, and although the Part Tracks will certainly help your advanced group learn the chart, make no mistake that this will push your singers about as much as anything they may have performed before. The result, though, will be something they can be immensely proud of having accomplished, and something that may become legendary over the years..."Oh, yeah! Was THAT the group that sang Kerry's 'Groovin' High'?? OK, that was definitely the best group I ever heard..."
