This original composition by the up-and-coming singer/songwriter/arranger Allison Wheeler uses the unique texture of a vocal jazz ensemble to tell a meaningful metaphorical story of a person's inner struggle and growth through self-reflection. The odd-meter and harmony used through much of the piece has shades of both Celtic folk song and Bluegrass influences, and an additive development section pushes the piece toward a climactic moment of conflict and resolution. A female soloist is featured, and although the guitar part may be considered optional, its role may add significantly to the overall mood and texture.
