This swinging blues-with-a-bridge arrangement is based on the cool 1960’s vibe from Shirley Horn’s recording on “Travelin’ Light”. A female soloist starts the tune with just the bass player before the vocal ensemble enters with simple horn backgrounds, and then they take over the melody at the bridge, with a bit of reharmonization before heading in to a solo section, then a singable soli section, carefully written largely in octaves with some punchy chord moments. The biggest challenge in this piece will be the bass section needing to sing quite a few major 7th intervals with upper voices, which can sometimes be tricky, but the chart is otherwise quite attainable for intermediate-level groups.
