Pop/Rock/Beyond

Part of the jazz tradition has been its relationship with popular music of its era.  Vocal jazz school programs very often feature pop repertoire as a supplement to their set for good practical and educational reasons.  Many of the most interesting and exciting commissions I've had the fortune to write over the last ten years have been arrangements of pop tunes, and I always try to push the envelope as much as possible, bringing in lots of jazz harmonic and rhythmic flavors, sometimes totally recreating the song.  With that in mind, give these pop tunes a chance, even if your ears lean toward the traditional sounds.  I'm also including the few traditional, religious or folk tunes in this category, for convenience of browsing. On this section, I'm including the artist or artists that were the source of inspiration for the arrangements (may not be the original artist or composer in each case).
