Level V
Level V charts, like the rest of them, are doable by high school groups as well as college and pro groups. What distinguishes them as the most challenging of the catalog are any combination of the following qualities: 1. Extreme ranges for the voice-parts, 2. Advanced rhythms, 3. Predominance of voicings for 6 or more parts, 4. Less attention to making voice-leading easy on the singers, 5. Need for a more advanced rhythm section, 6. A sum total of more music for the group to learn, increasing the needed rehearsal time.
I've heard high school groups to almost all of these, sometimes with great success, and the presence of just one highly challenging song on a school group's set can be the thing that keeps them interested and motivated throughout the course of the year.
