Serious improvements on the way
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 8:11PM I was working on the Part Tracks for "Virtual Insanity" last night (I'm starting with the most popular charts and working my way down to #98...or, actually #118 or so, once I add in the May charts), and it occurred to me that, as I'm going through all of my charts to do this, I'm going to be finding all the mistakes and ugly spots in the charts in the process. So I added a big to-do item: making a laundry list of all of the fixes needed in the charts so that when I have loads of time at some point, I'll be able to somehow efficiently go through make all the needed tweaks.
I'll have to make a big decision about whether or not to re-notate everything in Sibelius (yes, I know about the "shortcuts" for brining Finale files into Sibelius, but it still requires a ton of cleanup work afterward) or, perhaps, to bite the bullet and purchase Finale 2010 to make the edits there. I'd like for the charts to be more uniform than they are now, as they've been written over a period of twelve years, and my notation chops have improved along with my general writing chops. But that's a gigantic task that may not be doable in my lifetime. We'll see...
The other thing I decided to start doing before I got too far (I'm only on the fifth chart with this, as I write) is to make a "notes" file to go in the zip file you'll get when you buy the $25 Part Tracks. The notes will explain the contents in a some helpful detail, and may be used to explain my rationale for how I created the tracks. I might also include a few tidbits of extra insight about the chart, just as a bonus. The key was to get this procedure in place before getting through half of my catalog! So I feel good about that.
The VOTD is a fun, vintage Take 6 TV appearance with a British host and Japanese subtitles, for some reason. It's really cool to see the guys in this context. "Get Away, Jordan"
