Holiday Season Update - FIVE new SSAA charts!!
Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 12:38AM I've directed two women's vocal jazz groups this fall, one at Sac State (the Jazz Singers) and one at the JazzSchool in Berkeley, so I've got a few new SSAA charts to offer!
First is an arrangement of Miles Davis' "Four", with a challenging four-part soli section on the Jon Hendricks vocalese. Dig the demo, recorded by the Jazz Singers themselves...
Next is another advanced girls piece I wrote for the Jazz Singers, and the demo is also recorded by then. It's a contemporary original called "Still Travelling", and it borrows some motifs from my now ten-year-old composition, "Song for the Traveler".
A third chart I wrote for the Sac State Jazz Singers this fall was a lift of the Puppini Sisters' wacky and fun gypsy jazz arrangement of Beyonce's #1 hit, "Crazy in Love". This one's pretty easy to put together, and it's a show-stopper, for sure! Here's the Puppini Sisters' recording...
Finally, for the JazzSchool Institute Vocal Jazz Ensemble, I reworked my fairly new composition "Zemabia" for SSAA a bit, so I'm now offering that tune for women's ensembles with some slight voicing tweaks. Here's the all-me recording of the SATB version, for reference...
I also did a treble reworking (and simplification) of my chart on "Prelude to a Kiss." I made the voice-leading work a bit better, took out some of the nastiest stuff and made it much more singable, and, of course, I revoiced it for women. Here's the SATB recording, again, for reference:
COMING SOON: New videos of the Jazz Singers and Vertical Voices both live in concert. ALSO: A new demo of my chart on "My Better Half" is on the way, so stay tuned!
Happy Holidays, everybody!
